Ashburn in the late 1980's
Chicago History
Chicago had great site and situation factors which made it possible to flourish. It was situated at the mouth of the Chicago River allowing transportation and trade for future civilizations as well as Chicago being situated near the southwest area of the Great Lakes system allowed the city to expand. Then railways swept through Chicago making it the railway center of the U.S. and grow industrially. Chicago began to grow along those railways allowing the population to grow along with it.
Ashburn History
Deemed as area 70 of the neighborhoods in Chicago, Ashburn did not have a very good start, though improvements of industry did help it grow. Right after it was annexed to Chicago, railroads as well as its situation factors helped it flourish. Ashburn was situated along the Clarksdale subdivision of the new Chicago as well as the Brand trunk Railway which helped with goods, trade, and transportation. The first settlers of Chicago were the Dutch, Irish, and Swedish populations. The population had yet to flourish as only 30 homes were built and took 11 years for 18 more people to be added. Ashburn was also situated on marsh-prairie land which turned many people as well.
Though low in population Ashburn did manage to grow. It became a training camp Durring World War I pushing the population to 1,363. Later after WWII the population dropped to about 731 but was marked as the expansion of Cicero, Pulaski, and West Lawn. Soon, the vehicle industry grew causing part of Ashburn's cultural landscape as the boundary was redrawn between Ashburn and West Lawn giving it its rough outline to bring the industries of West lawn and Ashburn together.
Ashburn is approximately 10 miles SouthWest to the Chicago Loop which is considered the CBD of the city because it's rich in production, finance, and has clusters of retail.

Demographics
Changing demographics of Ashburn over time.
A few years after its establishment, the demographics of the Ashburn were significantly different than what they are now. The first people to ever settle there were of the irish, dutch, and swedish population, which caused the population to start off predominantly white through most of the 20th century. This was due to the heated racial issues occurring mainly by school desegregation. This tension kept blacks out of Ashburn. Then more towards late mid 1990's, many other races began immigrating to Ashburn because of the Greater Ashburn planning association relieving some racial strife. As shown, the African American, Indian, Asian, and Hispanic races began to grow, though neither were half as much the white population that still occupied most of the neighborhood. Soon, in the 2000 a drastic change occurred as more and more African Americans as well as other listed races migrated to the Ashburn neighborhood. The African American race slightly passes the amount of whites in the neighborhood making white the second largest racial group. New racial groups such as Hawaiian began to spur in the population.
