Violence/Crime
Crime map of Ashburn neighborhood.
The Ashburn neighborhood has been suffering from mass/growing violence and crime issues. Whether it be gun/gang violence, theft, fights, vandalism, etc. Violence has been growing at a fast pace. I think that the problem developed for gang territorial purposes. My area in particular, is facing mostly gun violence. The victims ranging from as young as 12 years old to early thirties. This problem is important because Ashburn is flourishing with schools from preschool to high school and the rise in violence is putting many children and teenagers lives in danger. Many kids have to transport themselves to and from school which is very dangerous with the growing violence. But violence isn't the only problem. Vandalism, theft, and drug use is occuring which is a bad influence to the children and everyone else in the neighborhood. More specifically, a 17-year old boy, Rodney Stewart, was shot in the Ashburn-Wrightwood area from a gang issue. Then another person was shot yet again on the 2400 block of West 79th street that occurred just days before. There was an issue when a man attempted to break into a woman's house on my block which is the 8200 block of California that occurred a couple months ago.
